His career began at the age of 12 when he was accepted into the Conservatoire de Paris.
Due to financial difficulties, his career as a classical pianist was cut short. Clayderman was invited by French producer Olivier Toussaint to audition as the pianist for a song that he wrote for his daughter. Passing the audition, Clayderman recorded the song (“Ballade pour Adeline”), which went on to sell 22 million copies in 38 countries.
He perfected a romantic style of playing that appealed to fans of all ages. From classical compositions to modern romantic pop hits like “Feelings”, “My Way”, “And I Love You So”, and “Canadian Sunset” among many others. Since his ’77 debut album, he has continued to release over 84 studio albums and many more compilations. His popularity has remained particularly strong in Asia, although he has a large fanbase across Europe. In 2014, he released the album Romantique.
