Dutton was born on October 3, 1972, in Philadelphia, Penn. He received a guitar at the age of eight and had composed his first tune by the time he was in ninth grade. Dutton busked on the streets of Philadelphia and attended one year of college at Skidmore College before moving to Boston, playing at any opportunity he could find.

Love by now, Jeffrey Clemens, who went by “The Houseman” and played drums as well as bass player Jim Prescott, who had the handle “Jimi Jazz” became G. Love and Special Sauce. Dutton has recorded three studio albums as a soloist, along with some bootlegs and demo albums.
