Southern Theatre tickets date back to when the venue was opened on September 21, 1896. It was designed for theatrical touring productions, silent films, vaudeville, country music revues, and community events. It is the oldest theater in central Ohio and one of the oldest in the state. It closed in 1979 due to increasing maintenance issues. It sold in 1982 as part of the Great Southern Hotel. In 1986, it was donated to CAPA (Columbus Association for the Performing Arts), which undertook an extensive study regarding restoration.
Reopening on September 26, 1998 following a 14-month restoration, the theater became home to Opera Columbus and Columbus Jazz Orchestra. Southern Theatre tickets are available for all their shows. There are also concerts and stage performances. The venue is at 21 E. Main St. Columbus, OH 43215.
